Timberline

The mountain looks so tall from the summit
Looking up with the sun in your eyes
Clouds hide the peak and what lies behind
Somewhere there's a path to the summit
Out there where the eagle flies
Wind at your back as you start to climb
You find strength in your desire
A course laid out by the dream in your mind
Before you know you've reached the timberline
We want to look down on the treetops far below
Rooted in the soil they grew in not climbing up,
but not falling down
Keep climbing up keep trying hand over hand, the rich
get going
Closer to the stars keep wishing. Burn bright and burn
out or glow forever
High above the Timberline cold wind burns your face
Way up there it's hard to breathe, hard to keep the pace
The sun is strong it lights the word so much to see
They tell me that it's lonely there where we all wish to be
You've come so far but there is so far to go
Growing shadows tell the passing of time
But feel much closer to the sky
The stone face you climb reflects the stone face you wear
Emotion weighs down on a weary mind
The forest looks so small from the summit
Looking down with a tear in your eye
Cloudy memories warm the coldest nights
Close to the stars, cast a shadow on the sun
A face in the crowd grows weary of standing alone
for the world to see
Hanging by a thread, clinging to hope
Keep climbing up keep trying hand over hand
the tough get going

Fairytales End
Take your pictures down off the wall
And don't forget the patchwork quilt you made
From souvenir shirts. I know the memories hurt
Five years and you can still recall the day
And the tears of joy and you can still recite the vows
The words seem strange to you now
No one can tell you to go or stay and who's to say
if it's right or wrong?
How can you live here another day when
all of the love is gone?
It's not how the fairytales end. Sleeping beauty's
prince came and swept her away
Happily ever after isn't that easy in the world today
It seems the friends have all chosen sides
Some you win some you lose
There's a light here in the dark now you know
who the real ones are
They say the home is where the heart resides
But a home became a prison for a wife
Locked deep inside. It's not how you pictured
the rest of your life
And now you regret what you gave up for him
It's a reason you're still holding on
Maybe this is your second chance before all the life is gone.
The kiss from the handsome prince took your breath away
and locked your spirit within
this life has so much to offer more than you ever got from him
I want to be there to keep out the rain. I can't share
your pain but I'll be a shoulder to cry on
I know it's hard to let go, the lonely nights are so cold.
Come sit by my side and we'll watch the sunrise together

Lifeboat
When the world starts to flood in through the cracks
And no one seems to care if I sink or swim
I search for solid ground in a sea of hopes and fears
As life sails by on a fair weather wind she's there for me
when it's every man for himself
Warm and dry for me when I'm drowning in everything else
My lifeboat and I alone under the sky
I sometimes float for days adrift out of my mind
And then I turn around and there is no land in sight
I'm pounded by the waves and carried on the tide
And just as all seems lost she appears at my side
When I'm diving in too deep she is a lifeboat to me
I never thought that I would be the one being saved
But you reached out your hand and pulled me from
the waves You are how and why I stay alive
